Subject: Essential Order Update, Violations & More

By way of reminder, the Ventura County Health Officer has not amended his order to allow real estate services to be performed or deemed "essential." According to the Stay Well at Home Order issued March 12 and updated on Tuesday, March 31st, you may not conduct real estate activities and you will be breaking the law if you conduct these activities. Your VCCAR Board of Directors strongly supports the county’s position.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THE COUNTY DOES NOT ANTICIPATE AN UPDATE TO THIS ORDER FOR THE NEXT TWO (2) WEEKS. This means you MUST stay home. No exceptions. You may not hold an open house or conduct in-person showings or inspections – this includes vacant properties.

We’ve received several calls and emails regarding members who are NOT adhering to the order and are seeking our help. If you see someone violating the Health Officer’s order you have the right to notify the local authorities. Moreover, you may contact VCCAR for procedures in filing a claim for a violation of the member’s duties, as the individual may be in violation of their obligations to the Association. VCCAR will assess the appropriate disciplinary action on a case by case basis and in accordance with C.A.R. and NAR.

Please understand, your Association leadership and staff continue to work with the County to request the order to allow real estate as an essential business. However, if this occurs, this does not mean business as usual. IF real estate and support services are considered essential, there will be limited access to the property that will be specified by the new order. We will update you just as soon as we receive information from the County health officer.

We encourage you to work smart and safe for yourself, your clients, and our community!

Sincerely,
Tim Comstock, President
Ventura County Coastal Association of REALTORS®
